Underfloor Heating for the Home

underfloor heating is a type of central heating that has been around since early Roman times. In the earlier systems heat was circulated through a series of ducts in the floor that received hot air and steam from fires. But nowadays, fortunately, consumers have a number of heating options to choose from.

Underfloor heating can now be generated by electric cable, film heaters or mesh. While each of these methods has proven effective, electric cable is currently the most popular of the three.

Under Floor Heating Installation

If you are considering installing under floor heating, it’s best to put it in while your home is being built, since it is far more affordable. Though installing the system in an existing home can be done, as you might expect, it can cause quite a bit of mess. Your finished floors will all have to be removed before the cables and heat pads can be installed.

And if you have expensive, custom-made ceramic or marble floors, it can be quite costly to replace them with new tiles after the heating system has been put in. However, under floor heating has been shown to reduce energy costs by as much as forty per cent. So, depending on your monthly bills, it may still be worth it to install the system.

When it comes to the actual installation, many homeowners choose to do it themselves. The process is not a particularly difficult one, as most underfloor heating systems come complete with detailed instructions, but it is a time-consuming one. So, if you do decide to self-install, make sure you have several days you can devote to the project.
