Vacation Rentals: An Overview

A vacation or holiday rental is a term used in the travel industry to refer to a furnished house or apartment that is available to rent on a short-term basis to travellers and tourists. It is a popular alternative to hotels or inns in many parts of Europe, especially in the UK. vacation rentals are available on a nightly basis, just like hotel rooms, though most visitors stay longer and are eligible for weekly rates. The most popular holiday rentals are condominiums or townhomes in the heart of bustling European cities, but single-family homes and villas are also available.

These properties are owned by the rental agency or by private owners and are not for sale.

A vacation rental differs from a timeshare, which is also a fully furnished home or apartment, in that the renter is just a renter, whereas in a timeshare the user is an actual owner and therefore is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the residence.

Why choose a vacation rental?

Generally speaking, people who choose vacation rentals over hotels are individuals who do not much care for the overall hotel experience. Perhaps they don’t enjoy the crowded lobbies, riding in elevators, or having to tip anxious bellboys. Whatever it is, they would rather stay in a place that is more like home.

Although vacation rentals do not offer lower rental fees than hotels, they do provide all the amenities of a real home like more space, a fully-equipped kitchen, books, games, and even beach equipment.
